LENS technology will be featured in Booth #K-4, September 12 – 13th 2007

Albuquerque, New Mexico: Optomec announced today that it will showcase LENS (Laser Engineered Net Shaping)advanced repair capabilities at Aviation Industry’s Aero Engine/Gas Turbine Conference at the Olympia Centre II in London, England. On the afternoon of September 12th, during the “Meet the Experts” panel, Dr. Martin Hedges of Optomec will be discussing “Titanium Aerospace Repair Using LENS Additive Manufacturing”. LENS systems use breakthrough additive manufacturing technology to repair high-performance aerospace components in state-of-the-art materials such as titanium, stainless steel, and InconelĀ®.

The AeroEngine/Gas Turbine Expo and Conference ranks as the one of Europe’s leading forums for showcasing advancements in maintenance, repair and overhaul technology. Dave Ramahi, President and CEO of Optomec states “The AeroEngine/Gas Turbine Expo is an ideal opportunity to present the latest LENS products and developments. We’re excited to showcase a number of recent enhancements that uniquely position Optomec’s LENS systems as the only proven solution for the repair of advanced engine components such as blisks.”

LENS systems use energy from a high-power laser to build up structures one layer at a time directly from powdered metals. The resulting fully functional three-dimensional components have mechanical properties that can be equivalent or even superior to wrought materials. The ability of LENS systems to add material to existing components makes it an essential system for service and repair applications. LENS systems can also be used throughout the entire product lifecycle for applications ranging from functional prototyping to low volume manufacturing.

Richard Grylls, LENS Product Manager, added “The selection of the LENS technology is further validation of the exceptional quality of LENS-produced material, and its utility in critical aerospace repair applications. Components repaired with the LENS process offer material properties that meet or exceed industry’s most demanding requirements.”
