Award winning Aerosol Jet technology ideal for printing conductors, semiconductors, and resistors
Albuquerque, New Mexico, 25 November 2008: Optomec (winner of the IDTechEx award for Technical Development/Manufacturing in 2007), announced today that Mike Renn, Ph.D will give a presentation on Aerosol Jet Printing of Thin Film Transistor Circuits at the IDTechEx Printable Electronics conference on December 4th in San Jose, CA. During the “Digital Printing Breakthroughs” track, Dr. Renn will provide an overview of Aerosol Jet deposition systems and will discuss the unique benefits of this technology for printing TFT devices with high drain current, high on-off ratio, and low operation voltage. Dr. Renn will also discuss how Aerosol Jet systems have achieved sub-micron layer thicknesses, 10 micron features sizes and 5 micron registrations. The conference and exhibition will be held on December 3rd and 4th at the San Jose Convention Center; Optomec will be located in booth #32.
Optomec’s Aerosol Jet deposition systems are a printing platform used in the development of next generation devices such as photovoltaic cells, fuel cells, printable electronics, and more. Aerosol Jet systems use a Direct-Write process that first aerosolizes conductive and nonconductive inks or pastes and then forms an aerodynamically focused droplet stream of the material. This Direct Write capability eliminates the need for screens or stencils required by traditional contact deposition processes while also enabling much finer feature sizes than is possible with ink jet printing technology. “In addition to the wide variety of materials and substrates supported and the finer feature sizes, the additive process employed by Aerosol Jet systems reduces environmental impact by minimizing the waste and chemicals that are part of more traditional manufacturing processes” says Dr. Renn.
